Casa Batlló

I have been patiently waiting for the day my architecture class was going on our field trip to Casa Batlló and it finally came! I have heard so many amazing things about this building and it is so iconic to the city and the skyline of Barcelona, it was really wonderful to finally go inside. It is also really great to have a teacher who has so much knowledge and insight about architecture and Gaudí himself, it really adds to the experience. I will pretty much let the pictures speak for themselves, but one of the most amazing things about this building is the way the space moves you (literally and figuratively). Before we went inside my teacher was trying to describe how you don't even realize how special these rooms are until you are standing once again in a non-Gaudí room, and it's true! At the top of the building there is a little room off to the side where they were showing a sort of informational video, and the room was just your basic rectangle with nothing too special about it. Once I stepped in there I got that feeling you get when you step off a roller coaster or when you jump in an elevator, I don't know I can't really pin point what the feeling is, but it felt like my body was still moving but I was standing still. Those winding halls and curved walls had left a mark on me. And at this moment you can really seehow extraordinary and creative and just plane amazing the architecture of Gaudí really is.
