New York City!
Before I hoped the pond over to Belgium I stopped in New York City to say goodbye to some family and friends. I was only there for four days, so I had to pack a lot into each day in order to see everyone and everything I wanted to. My cousin Rosy was my main confidant while I was there, we went to The Guggenheim, The Met, Lincoln Center, Alice's Tea Cup (twice!) and various other places around Manhattan and Brooklyn. One of the highlights for me from out adventures was seeing the work of JR at Lincoln Center. For those of you who don't know JR he is/was a street artist that I really love. He is famous for taking very up close portraits of people and pasting them on huge surfaces among the community the subject comes from. If you don't know some of his earlier work I would highly recommend checking it out. He has really blown up in the past few years which is both good and bad, but he is doing some really beautiful work with the New York City Ballet which is up on the outside and inside of Lincoln center. You have to pay to see the inside, so unfortunately I do not know what it looks like inside but from what we could see on the outside it looks pretty spectacular.
Another very big highlight for me on this trip was going to dinner at The Modern with my wonderful aunt. She was very very kind to me and took me there for a birthday/graduation celebration dinner. I had no idea what to expect but the whole meal was really above and beyond my expectations. We ordered four courses and were brought nine, four of which were dessert. Even though I did not know about 3/4 of the ingredients in any of the dishes I had, everything was amazingly delicious.
I also was fortunate enough to see my friend Taylor from boarding school and my friend Hannah and her girlfriend Rachel, hannah whom I know from basketball all the way back in 7th grade. I had lost of fun going out in Brooklyn with taylor, seeing some nice bars in her neighborhood and then cuddling with her roommates pug in the morning. Then with Hannah we cooked a nice meal on the upper west side and caught up over a few glasses of wine. Also, my other aunt who lives in upstate NY with my grandma drove over 4 hours to come have lunch withe me on my last day in the city. It was over the top of her to do that, but I am more than happy that I got to see her before I left the country. Overall it was a great trip and a great way to see so many people I love before heading off to Belgium. Here are some photos from the trip, please forgive me they might be a little out of order!
