Oktoberfest!

Holy moly. I am back in Barcelona after a crazy weekend at Oktoberfest in Munich, Germany! I was a little nervous how this weekend was going to turn out considering we had to take a 20 hour bus ride there and back from Munich, and then camp for two nights but it turned out to be an amazing weekend! There was a group of about 25 kids from my study abroad program who all took the same bus to Munich, which quickly turned into one big party bus. We went through a company who does these bus/camping packages for a lot of festivals and things around Europe, so the people running everything pretty much just party for a living. (To give you a perspective, on the ride to Munich we stopped at a rest stop and the main leader of the group bought a 5 liter bottle of vodka on the company credit card).

But anyways, when we finally got to Munich a group of 8 of us sort of split off and got a teepee for all of us to share. Most people had to share small two person tents, so the teepee was a much better option. Then we all took a bus into the center of Munich and walked around for a while and ended up at the Hofbrauhaus, which is a giant beer hall where Hitler gave his first speech.

The next morning we woke up at about 6am to make it into Oktoberfest by 8:30, because if you don't get in line for one of the beer tents that early, you most likely will not get in. But it was well worth getting up that early because the beer tents were amazing! They are these massive tents decorated like Christmas where everyone is dressed in lederhosen singing songs in German having the time of their lives. We stayed in there for a few hours and then wondered around the festival for while. It was lightly raining for most of the day which at first made things a little harder, but also just made everyone so much more excited. We met so many people from around the world who all came to Munich just for this festival. Eventually we made it back to our campsite, took a quick nap, and then just kept partying with everyone who was there!

The bus ride home was not quite as much fun, everyone was completely exhausted at this point and just wanted to get home. But it was a pretty amazing weekend, something I will never forget. And Germany is beautiful and everyone was so nice! Here are some photos:
