For the first week in August, and now for Labor Day weekend, my family and I went to our family house in upstate New York in the town of Barneveld. This mostly involves us sitting around the kitchen table eating and drinking, occasionally getting up to go for a swim in the creek, and if we are REALLY motivated, a casual game of tennis. Here are a few photos from our trip:

For most of the month of August I have been staying with my aunt (...and cousin, and various friends) in New York City. My time as been filled with many delicious meals, beautiful art exhibits, and drinks with old friends. Here are a few shots from around the city:
I did not take this photo, but I wanted to give you all an idea of what the James Turrell show was like at the Guggenheim. It is easier to understand what is going on if you have been to this museum, but he put screens up blocking the opening of the ramp that spirals up the entire museum; thus creating this overwhelming space in the ceiling filled with intense color that changes every few minutes. There is space on the floor or benches to sit on and gaze into this abyss. I sat on a bench for about half an hour and found it absolutely amazing. There were other small parts to his show through out the museum but I found this piece the most important. It was such a treat to see his work in person.
